Artist's Statement

Jewelry is most impressive when it takes on a non-wearable, sculptural form. Pieces I have made in the past hold onto that quality, thereby questioning the physical connection with the body.

Women's studies is a field that I find extremely pertinent when dealing with art. The topic of feminism works ironically well with a medium such as jewelry because of the traditional connotations society places on jewelry. Everything from the material to the placement of the jewelry can give insight to body image and can provide tension between the physical and intangible components of the piece.

The jewelry I have been making in the past year touches on both of those mentioned ideas, but in a much more wearable, production-oriented way. My nature line is inspired by the innocence and confidence girls have before they get too influenced by the dregs of society.
